Compelling Quality and Character
Between the elevated ridges of the Mayacamas Mountains to the west and the Vaca Range to the east, beautiful Clear Lake, the oldest geological lake in North America, is surrounded by 8,000 acres of vineyards. Under blue skies that boast the purest air in California, some one hundred and forty growers cultivate vines in an astounding array of soils, some among the youngest in California.
Pollywog Vineyard is situated in a structural basin, the Big Valley, at an elevation of 1,400 feet. Several elements work in our favor to create the ideal Chardonnay grape. Warm days and cool nights, free of the fog that envolopes much of the rest of the San Francisco Bay Area, combined with clean air and high elevations mean more UV exposure for the grapes. The end result is small Chardonnay grapes with thicker skins and amazingly robust flavors.
